A strength gym for people who are new to it
Millrace Gym (sample) opened in an old mill workshop on Foundry Road. We teach lifting, run coached classes and keep the floor friendly for beginners.

Coached, not crowded
We started with two platforms and a rowing machine in 2016 (sample). Today six coaches run forty classes a week, and most members came in knowing nothing about barbells.
We cap classes at twelve, so the coach can watch every rep. We do not sell supplements, and nobody will ask you to post a progress photo.
Floor rules
Six things that keep the gym safe and pleasant for everyone. Coaches will remind you, kindly.
Strip your bar
Take the plates off when you finish and put them back on the rack by colour.
Chalk stays in the bowl
Use the chalk bowls by the platforms and wipe the bar after a heavy session.
Share the racks
Let someone work in between your sets when the gym is busy.
Ask before you film
Film your own lifts, not other members.
Wipe the bench
Spray and towels are at the end of every row.
Shout for a spot
Any coach on the floor will spot you on a heavy bench or squat.
