A boxing club for people who have never boxed
Tanner Lane Boxing Club (sample) teaches boxing and kickboxing to adults. Most members walked in without ever having worn a glove.

Technique first, then the hard work
The club opened in 2014 (sample) with one ring and six bags in the old tannery on Tanner Lane. Today five coaches run thirty classes a week.
We teach boxing the way it is taught to amateurs: stance, guard and the jab before anything else. Sparring is never compulsory, and nobody spars until a coach has watched them for weeks.
Gym rules
Six rules that keep the club safe and friendly. Coaches will remind you.
Wraps on before gloves
Every time, even for bag work. Ask a coach if you are not sure how.
Only coached sparring
No sparring in open gym, and only with a coach at ringside.
Respect the bell
When the round ends, stop. Rest when the timer says rest.
Clean gloves, clean mats
Wipe the borrowed gloves and spray your mat area after class.
Leave the ego outside
Hit pads and bags hard, people lightly. Help the newer members.
Tell us about injuries
Before class, not after. The coach will change the drill for you.
What is in the building
One long training room in a converted tannery, with high windows and a sprung floor.
- The ring and fourteen heavy bags on the main floor
- A mat area for skipping, stretching and kickboxing drills
- Changing rooms with showers and lockers
- A small office where the coaches keep the timetable and spare kit
