About me
I run warehouses: the people, the safety and the numbers. This page is the longer version of the profile, with how I work and what I studied (sample).

From goods in to three sites
I started on a chilled goods-in dock at Riverside Foods, checking temperatures at five in the morning. Six years of night shifts at Harbour Freight taught me that a rota is a safety tool, not a spreadsheet (sample).
Since 2021 I have run three sites for Northgate Distribution. My best days are the dull ones: trucks on time, nobody hurt, the numbers where we said they would be.

How I work
Three habits that every team I have run would recognise.
On the floor first
I start every shift walking the site with the team leader on duty. Problems are cheaper at 06:10 than in the 10:00 meeting.
Numbers people can see
Each team has three numbers on a board by the clocking-in point, updated every hour. If the numbers need a spreadsheet to explain, they are the wrong numbers.
Rotas written with the team
Shift patterns are drafted with the people who work them. It takes longer the first time and saves months of agency cover after.
