How a sale works
1
A first call
Thirty minutes with our acquisitions director. No documents, no names if you prefer.
2
Figures and a visit
Under a confidentiality agreement we read three years of accounts and visit the business.
3
An indicative offer
A written offer within four weeks of the visit, with the price range and how we would pay.
4
Due diligence
Eight to twelve weeks with our accountants and lawyers; one point of contact on each side.
5
Completion and the first hundred days
Signing, a letter to staff and customers together, and no changes you did not agree.
Questions from owners
Will you change the name of my company?
No. Every company in the group trades under its own name, including the ones we have owned for more than twenty years.
Can I keep a share?
Yes. Several founders kept 20% to 45% for some years; the chart on the companies page shows where the group owns less than all of a company.
Do you use advisers?
We work with your adviser if you have one, and pay our own costs whatever happens.
How long does a sale take?
From the first call to completion, usually four to six months (sample).
