Series
Runs of entries on one subject: soup, a long walk, a loaf.
Some topics grew into runs of entries. Each run sits in the index under its own word, with its entry numbers.

How a series starts
A series starts by accident: one entry about soup leads to a second, and by the fourth I give it a name. Every entry in a series still stands on its own, so you can start anywhere.
In the index, a series is one headword with a run of numbers (34–47). The bold number is the entry that explains the idea.
