Standards and corrections

How we report, how we correct mistakes and how to complain.

How we report

A local magazine is only useful if you can trust it. These are the rules the newsroom works to.

Corrections

Mistakes are fixed online within a day and listed on page 2 of the next issue.

Independence

Owned by a readers’ co-operative (sample). Advertisers never see a story before it is printed.

Who pays

Subscriptions pay for 70% of the newsroom, advertising for the rest (sample).

Recent corrections

Printed on page 2 of the next issue and noted at the foot of the story online.

Issue 411, page 5

The library’s new Saturday hours are 9:00 to 16:00, not 9:00 to 13:00.

Issue 410, page 9

The bakery on Mill Street opened in 2009, not 2019.

Corrected

Issue 408, page 3

Questions about our journalism

How do I ask for a correction?

Write to the readers’ editor from the contact page. Tell us the issue, the page and what is wrong; we reply within two working days.

Do advertisers influence what you write?

No. Advertising is sold by a separate team and nobody outside the newsroom sees a story before it is printed.

Will you keep my name out of a story?

If naming you would put you at risk, yes. We decide case by case and tell you before we publish.

Can I reply to an article?

Yes. Letters under 250 words are considered for the next issue’s letters page.
