Front nine

Holes 1 to 9: the brook, the Oaks and the Quarry.

Front nine, holes 1 to 9

Out along the brook to the Quarry and back to the halfway hut. Par 36, 3,354 yards from the white tees.

1

Brook Lane

A gentle opener. The brook runs down the left all the way; the fairway is wider than it looks from the tee.

2

Long Meadow

Reachable in two for long hitters, but the green slopes hard from back to front. Lay up short of the cross bunker.

3

Spinney

Downhill through a gap in the trees. Play a club less; anything long runs into the spinney.

4

The Oaks

The hardest hole on the card. Two old oaks guard the left side of the landing area; aim at the right edge of the bunker.

5

Mill Race

A short dogleg right over the old mill race. Long iron from the tee leaves a wedge to a two-tier green.

6

Rookery

Uphill all the way to a green set below the rookery. The approach plays one club longer.

7

The Quarry

The signature hole: over the old quarry pond to a green above the water. Bail out right, short of the bunker.

8

Heron's Way

The longest hole. Water short of the green on the right; the safe line is the left half all the way.

Back towards the clubhouse. The halfway hut is behind the green: soup and a bacon roll for the back nine.
