How to read a save slot
No scores out of ten. A slot tells you what a score hides: how much of the game the verdict is based on.
Play time
Hours and minutes on the reviewer’s save when the review was written.
Completion
Ten cells, one for every tenth of the game the save file says is done.
Credits
Whether we saw an ending. If not, the slot says where we stopped.
Verdict
Play it now, Wait for a patch or a sale, or Skip it. Nothing in between.

Reviews by genre
Pick what you like to play. Every genre page lists its reviews as save slots, newest first.
Role-playing
Long games, big choices. We tell you how many hours the story takes and how many the extras add.
Strategy
Turn-based and real-time. We play at least two full campaigns before we judge the balance.
Platformers
Jumps, timing and level design. We say how hard it gets and whether there is an assist mode.
Everything else
Racing, horror, puzzle and life sims: reviewed with the same save-file rules.

The sofa is back: why local co-op games are selling again
Split-screen nearly vanished ten years ago. This autumn six new games ship with two players on one screen (sample). We asked three small studios why, and played all six with a friend on the other controller.
By Mara Lindgren (sample), features editor. 14 minutes to read.
The Friday round-up
One email a week: the reviews, the patches that changed a verdict and the games out next week. Five minutes to read, no adverts in it.
How we review
Four rules every review on Slot Three keeps (sample). If we break one, the review says so at the top.
- We finish the game, or the slot says exactly where we stopped and why
- We buy our own copy, or the review says who sent the code
- No publisher sees a review before it goes up
- When a patch changes the game, we play it again and update the slot
