Courses and what they cover
Every course is taught by doing: most of the day is spent on the floor with manikins, bandages or extinguishers, not in front of slides. The sign shows which family a course belongs to.

Training at your workplace
For four people or more, a trainer comes to you with everything the course needs. Your team learns in the place where they would have to use it, and nobody loses a day to travel.
We bring
- Adult manikins, one between two people, and a training defibrillator
- Bandages, dressings and a practice first-aid box
- Handouts and certificates of attendance
You provide
- A room with floor space for everyone to kneel
- Tables, chairs and a place to wash hands
- A list of names a week before the course
The first minutes, as practised on every course
When someone collapses, these steps come in this order. On the course you repeat them until you no longer have to think about them.
1
Check for danger
Make sure you, the person and anyone nearby are safe before you go closer.
2
Check for a response
Speak loudly and tap their shoulders. If there is no answer, shout for help.
3
Open the airway
Tilt the head back gently and lift the chin.
4
Check breathing
Look, listen and feel for normal breathing for no more than ten seconds.
5
Call 911, send for a defibrillator
Put the phone on speaker so your hands stay free, and send someone for the nearest defibrillator.
6
Start chest compressions
Push hard and fast in the centre of the chest, and follow the call handler and the defibrillator’s spoken instructions.
An outline of what the courses practise. It is not a substitute for training; in an emergency, always follow the call handler.
Occupational health checks
An occupational health nurse (sample) runs the checks at your site, one person at a time, in a quiet room. Each person gets their own results.
Hearing checks
For people who work in noise: workshops, warehouses, kitchens, grounds teams.
20 minutes
Lung function tests
For work with dust, fumes, sprays or flour.
20 minutes
Skin checks
For wet work, cleaning products, oils and gloves worn all day.
10 minutes
Vision screening
For people who use screens most of the day, and for drivers.
15 minutes
Health questionnaires
Before someone starts a new role, read by the nurse, who follows up if needed.
Online
The employer receives a summary only with each person’s consent.
Questions from employers
How many first aiders do we need?
It depends on the work you do, the size of your site and how many people are there at once, so start from your own first-aid needs assessment. We are happy to talk it through before you book; the decision stays with you.
What do people receive at the end?
A certificate of attendance with the course name, the date and the hours. First-aid courses also record the practical assessment. Check with your regulator or insurer which courses they accept for your workplace.
How often should first aiders refresh?
Many workplaces renew first-aid training every three years and add a short practice session in between. We keep a record of who trained when and email you before a certificate reaches its date (sample).
Can someone with access needs take part?
Yes. Tell us when you book. Practice can be done with the manikin on a table instead of the floor, and handouts come in large print (sample).
What should people wear and bring?
Comfortable clothes for kneeling, and lunch if they prefer their own. Tea, coffee and water are provided at Wharf Road.
