About Clara Wendt
Novelist, former weather observer, and a writer of one stretch of coast (sample). Six books since 2017.

From weather reports to novels
For eleven years Clara took the readings at a coastal weather station: wind, pressure, rain, every three hours (sample). The notebooks she kept between the readings became the stories in Small Hours.
Since then she has written three standalone books and the Harrow trilogy, all set within twenty miles of the sea wall where she grew up. Her books are published by Marsh Lane Books and translated into nine languages (sample).
The short version
The note printed on the back flap of The Salt Orchard.
Clara Wendt (sample) grew up on the coast north of Springfield and worked as a weather observer before she wrote fiction. Her books include Small Hours, The Glasshouse Year and the Harrow novels. She writes in a shed at the end of her garden, within earshot of the sea wall.

How the books are written
The same routine for every book, as far as the weather allows.
- Mornings by hand in a lined notebook, three pages before anything else
- Afternoons typing up the morning, and walking the places in the book
- A first draft in about a year, then three or four more
- Every place on the coast is real; every person is invented
